Blue Jays claim RHP Matt Waldron off waivers from Padres

In a corresponding move, left-handed pitcher Patrick Corbin was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
Waldron was designated for assignment by the Padres last week, opening up the window for the Jays to claim him.
The 29-year-old has struggled in the majors this year, pitching to a 7.16 ERA with a 1.561 WHIP in 10 appearances (three starts). He has 28 strikeouts in 32.2 innings pitched.
His last MLB appearance came in a 7-2 win over the Miami Marlins on July 25, pitching two innings and giving up one run.
He’s excelled at triple-A, however, posting a 1.33 ERA in eight appearances, all starts, with an even 1.000 WHIP.
The Omaha, Neb., native has a 5.19 ERA and 1.327 WHIP in 46 major-league games (36 starts) over his four seasons in MLB, all of which were spent with the Padres.
