Tragic Details Emerge in Rob Reiner and Wife’s Death Certificates

Famed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were tragically found dead in their Los Angeles County home on Dec. 14. Their death certificate confirmed the cause was “multiple sharp force injuries” with a “knife” and was quickly ruled a homicide by police.
As new details continue to emerge, Variety reported the couple passed away only “minutes” after suffering the fatal injuries. Rob’s body was discovered at 3:45 p.m., and his wife was found roughly one minute later. Two days after their deaths, their youngest son, Nick, 32, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. His next court date is scheduled for Jan. 7.
As the world mourns the loss of the critically acclaimed filmmaker, 78, and his wife, 70 — who was also a photographer and film producer— two of their children, Jake, 34, and Romy, 27, released a statement to People on Dec. 17, describing the loss of their parents as “horrific and devastating.”
“They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends. We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life… We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”

Rob made a lasting mark on the film industry throughout his decades-long career, from his bittersweet rom-com When Harry Met Sally to the mockementary stylings of This Is Spinal Tap and his gritty military legal drama A Few Good Men. Many of his classics are still studied in film production and screenwriting classes around the world, including one of his most memorable offerings to the film industry: The Princess Bride.
Following Rob and Michele’s deaths, the cast members of the beloved fantasy romance reflected on their memories of the late director and the impact that he had on their lives. Chris Sarandon, who played the villainous Prince Humperdinck, took to social media to say Rob “changed” his life, and Fred Savage, who played the Grandson, gushed that Rob “gave me the opportunity to be a part of something that has become so much bigger than anyone could have ever imagined.”
Meanwhile, Mandy Patinkin, who expertly brought the tragic role of Inigo Montoya to life, reminisced about a special moment he shared with the director on set during a sit-down with Entertainment Weekly.
“When we were filming the scene in the Princess Bride, where Inigo kills the six-fingered man and says: ‘I want my father back you son of a b—-‘ take after take after take, Rob kept asking me to do less do less, do less,” he explained at the time. “In my sleepless night, I realized he wanted less anger from me to allow my broken heart to be felt.”
”Now I’m hearing his voice tell us all to do more, do more, do more to repair the human soul, to repair our hearts, to repair our country, to repair our world, to never give up, to keep fighting, to keep living for every soul taken from this earth, that no longer has the life and breath to raise their voices for a better world, we must raise our voices for them.”
