Gladiators star Matt Morsia is battling it out to impress Lord Alan Sugar on The Celebrity Apprentice.

Lord Sugar has put several celebrity candidates to task over the years in one-off versions of BBC’s The Apprentice but this year’s Christmas special could be one of his most challenging yet.

12 famous faces were flown out to Lapland to cook some winning gingerbread biscuits – along with branding, marketing and a catchy jingle for an advert – in the hope of winning money for Children In Need.

Matt, 39, is usually to be found glowering on Gladiators, where his alter-ego Legend sets out to halt any contestants who try to beat the super-athletes at their own game.

But fans are set to see a completely different side to the sportsman and here’s everything you need to know about the BBC star.

Matt aka Legend is a former Championship bronze medal-winning long and triple jumper, and silver medal-winning powerlifter.

He’s also a fitness YouTuber with more than 1.1 million followers on Instagram, and his own fitness business and app, Morsia.

Legend is six foot one (1.85m tall), can triple jump over 50 feet – that’s longer than a double decker bus- and has an impressive bicep size of 40cm.

He wanted to become a Gladiator because he thought he’d be “really good” at it, as well as it always being a “life goal” of his.

He joined the rebooted competition show in season one. “I watched the original Gladiators as a kid,” Matt previously explained.

“From the age of nine or 10 years old, I wanted to be a Gladiator. It’s been a lifelong ambition, I guess.”

He is married to wife Sarah, who is the managing director of his fitness business, and together they have two children.

Earlier this year, Matt, who worked as a PE teacher in Kent, suffered a bicep injury which he described as the “worst” two weeks of his life.

In a video posted on social media, he explained how he initially thought that the injury wasn’t serious. However, he quickly realised the seriousness of the situation when he went backstage and saw his bicep half-way up his upper arm.

Though he repeatedly thanked the medical staff for their care, Matt explained that the recovery process involved nausea and other symptoms that led to him losing over two stone (15kgs).

The injury happened when Matt was tackling another contestant while filming for the hit BBC show, and his arm got “yanked” behind him taking his bicep “clean off the bone”.

Matt had to spend two weeks in a hospital and “couldn’t eat food for 12 days” leaving him so weak he couldn’t stand up.

Fans will have to wait and see if Matt has got what it takes to take down his fellow candidates in the boardroom.

The Celebrity Apprentice will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Monday, December 29 and Tuesday, December 30 at 9pm
