Syracuse, N.Y. — Upstate New York is expected to close out 2025 with a lake effect snowstorm that could bring feet of snow and 60 mph winds.

The storm starts today and could last through New Year’s Eve, the National Weather Service said.

The hardest-hit areas are expected to be parts of Western New York, Central New York and the North Country.

Winds near Lake Erie and Lake Ontario could exceed 60 mph, causing whiteout conditions and possibly uprooting trees and knocking out power.
