Moment thieves steal comedian’s bag from under her seat in London restaurant

Thieves have been captured on video stealing a comedian’s bag from under her seat in a London restaurant.
Cally Beaton was enjoying a meal in Marylebone on Monday when her bag was taken.
CCTV footage posted on social media by the 56-year-old shows the first of two men returning from the restaurant’s toilet and using his foot to sweep the bag towards him, as a second man then heads to the toilet.
He places the bag inside his rucksack and leaves before the second man is then seen leaving the toilet and also walks away without Ms Beaton realising her bag has been taken.
‘Bending it like Beckham’
She wrote on Instagram: “Please watch and share this footage of these two lovely guys (faces clearly captured on CCTV) who as I sat catching up with a friend just now, stole my bag from under my chair, bending it like Beckham in what is evidently their signature robbing move.
“Maybe it will be shared widely enough they don’t get to do it to anyone else. And big shout out to the enormously helpful staff where it happened. Happy Twixmas, everyone. Stay safe out there.”
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “On Monday, December at 5.07pm police received an online report of theft, alleged to have occurred at a restaurant on Thayer Street, Westminster, earlier that day.
“A 56-year-old woman reported that her handbag had been stolen by two men. Inquiries are ongoing to identify the suspects, and anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting 01/8370099/25.”
In May, actress Rosamund Pike said she was robbed by a “mugger” on a bicycle who stole her mobile phone. She said she had been on the phone to her mother when the attacker struck.
In June last year, the former tennis player Annabel Croft said she was mugged for her phone while waiting for a taxi outside Kings Cross station.
