Packers signing QB Desmond Ridder to practice squad ahead of regular season finale

The Green Bay Packers are signing quarterback Desmond Ridder to the team’s practice squad ahead of Sunday’s regular season finale against the Minnesota Vikings, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
The addition of Ridder suggests the Packers — who are locked into the No. 7 seed — are planning to rest quarterbacks Jordan Love and Malik Willis on Sunday in Minneapolis. Love was in concussion protocol as of Sunday, while Willis is dealing with an injury to his throwing shoulder.

The Packers also have quarterback Clayton Tune on the practice squad, although it’s possible he’ll be signed to the 53-man roster before Sunday. Tune was elevated to the gameday roster and finished last Saturday night’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens after Willis exited with an aggravation of his shoulder injury.
Ridder, a third-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2022, is on his sixth NFL team. He previously spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals and Minnesota Vikings during the 2025 season.
Ridder has appeared in 25 NFL games, with 18 starts. He last played in 2024, when he made a start for the Las Vegas Raiders. Between the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Ridder made 17 starts for the Falcons, going 8-9.
Ridder has completed 63.6 percent of his passes, thrown 16 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions, averaged 6.8 yards per attempt and produced a passer rating of 82.6 at the NFL level.

Ridder was most recently with the Vikings. He spent two weeks on the team’s 53-man roster between September and October and then had a one-week stint on the team’s practice squad to end November and start December.
If Tune is signed to the 53-man roster and starts Sunday, Ridder could be elevated as the emergency backup option against the Vikings.
