NUEVO, Calif. (KABC) — A firefighter has died following a house fire in Riverside County early Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out just before 5:30 a.m. at a single-story residence in Nuevo, an area east of Perris and north of Menifee, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. The garage was fully engulfed in flames.
Fire Apparatus Engineer Danny Cook suffered a medical emergency and was taken to the hospital, but he did not survive.
“Engineer Cook’s passing is a devastating loss to our department, the fire service, and the community he served with dedication and professionalism. His commitment to duty will not be forgotten,” the department said in a statement.
Meanwhile, a man and a woman who were inside the house suffered minor injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
