There are all sorts of New Year’s superstitions that are supposed to make sure the new year is a good one.
Some cultures consider it good to break glass on New Year’s to chase away evil spirits. Others think you should eat 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight to ensure 12 months of good luck. In the south, the most well-known tradition is to eat black-eyed peas – which represent coins – and collard greens that stand in for cash.
No matter what you’re holiday tradition, chances are you may need to make a store run and that can be complicated by holiday schedules. If you do need to do some shopping, you can head to Walmart .
The nation’s largest retailer will be open regular hours on New Year’s Day (Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026. For most stores, that means hours of operation from 6 a.m.-11 p.m.
Some store services may have different schedules so check ahead to confirm schedules.
It’s important to note that Walmart-owned Sam’s Club is closed on New Year’s Day.
