Suspect arrested after stabbing at Safeway in Southeast Portland

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – Portland Police have arrested a man accused of stabbing a person inside a Safeway on New Year’s Day.

The stabbing happened on Thursday, Jan. 1, at the 3500 block of Southeast 122nd Avenue in the Powellhurt-Gilbert neighborhood around 10 a.m.

PPB says the victim, a 77-year-old man, had been stabbed and robbed while in the restroom at the grocery store.

The victim was taken to the hospital with serious knife wounds but is expected to survive.

At around 11:40 a.m., officers arrested 51-year-old Christopher E. Woods of Portland in connection to the stabbing, according to police.

Woods has been booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of first-degree assault and first-degree robbery.
