Tide warning after trapped youth rescued from rocks in Whitby

Emergency services have urged people visiting coastal areas to check tide times after a young male was rescued in Whitby on New Year’s Day.
Whitby Coastguard said he had become “trapped by the incoming tide” while walking in the West Cliff area shortly after midday.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, whose crews also attended the incident, said the male had become “stranded on rocks at the foot of a cliff”.
The male was rescued with the help of a rope cast from about 230-260ft (70-80m) above, emergency services said.
