Blues beginning to regret trade with Canadiens as Logan Mailloux’s struggles mount

A successful acquisition for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.
It’s fair to say the St. Louis Blues are starting to look at that trade a little differently. Since last summer, Logan Mailloux has been carrying the weight of the trade that brought Zachary Bolduc to Montreal, and the numbers don’t lie.
However, the trade is not unfolding as planned for the Blues.
Logan Mailloux hits rock bottom
Since the start of the season, Mailloux has just one goal and one assist in 27 games, for two points. The biggest red flag is his -20 plus-minus rating in those 27 games.
Even with fewer games played than many regulars, that puts him near the bottom of the league, and it’s drawing attention for all the wrong reasons.
His most recent game didn’t help matters. In just 8:52 of ice time, he finished with a -3 rating.
“That’s a peewee turnover by Logan Mailloux.”
When a defenseman has a night like that, the ice time speaks volumes, and the message is not always pleasant to hear. It also explains why his average ice time is the lowest among the Blues’ regular defensemen.
“-20 in 27 games: it’s brutal for Logan Mailloux in St. Louis”

There was a stint in the AHL earlier this season, and the question quickly comes back when the numbers stay in the red for too long. Is another trip back and forth becoming inevitable?
Meanwhile, Zachary Bolduc is settling in nicely in Montreal, giving the Canadiens another option elsewhere in the lineup.
In the end, it’s fair to say Kent Hughes made another excellent trade and improved the Canadiens.
