Wednesday are bottom of the Championship after they were hit by two separate points deductions, whereas Stoke are eighth.
Although Amass would be assured of regular playing time at Hillsborough, Stoke are in the market for a left back to boost their chances of ending an eight-year absence from the Premier League.
United will not recall Amass, who was accused of “entitlement” by manager Ruben Amorim.
After Amorim claimed Amass was “struggling” at Wednesday last month, the England Under 18 international posted a picture of him clutching the club’s player of the month award for November.

Amass later deleted the post and Amorim’s “struggling” comment was a reference to the defender playing for a side certain to be relegated.
Wednesday confirmed on Saturday morning that Amass had again topped the fans’ vote to be crowned the club’s player of the month for December.
United signed Amass from the Watford academy in 2023 and he made his debut for the club in March.
Amass was not involved in pre-season training or included in the club’s tour squad as the plan was for him to head out on a season-long loan.

Amorim has seemingly ruled out the prospect of winter reinforcements arriving at Old Trafford this month.
The Portuguese gaffer said: “The transfer window is not going to change.
“We have no conversations at this moment to have any change in the squad.
“There’s a process, there’s an idea that is going to continue.
“We are near the places of the Champions League, but we are also near like eight teams behind us.
“So let’s focus on the next game, just that. Our focus is to win the next game.”
