Engagement ring recovered after dramatic drop from Boyne SkyBridge

An engagement ring is back in the hands of a newly engaged couple after it slipped through shaking hands on SkyBridge Michigan at Boyne Mountain Resort and plummeted 118 feet to the snow-covered ski slopes below.

Trevor Van Camp of Rochester Hills proposed to his girlfriend, Danielle Jenkins, on the illuminated suspension bridge after planning a surprise weekend trip to the resort. Moments after she said yes, the ring fell from his hand.

“We panicked for a minute and then said, we need to find it,” Trevor recalled.

The couple searched for the next two and a half hours before Boyne Mountain snowmaking supervisor Pat Harper stepped in, using metal detectors to help. After the couple had given up hope, Harper found the ring buried in the snow.

“I give big props and kudos to Pat for doing that for us, because he saved the day, he really did,” Danielle said. “It was an experience that we now have; a story to tell of our engagement.”

The next day, the ring was returned, and Trevor was finally able to place it on Danielle’s hand. The couple says they plan to return to finish their walk across the bridge.
