Sean Swayze, the younger brother of the late actor Patrick Swayze, has died. He was 63.
Sean’s son Jesse told TMZ his father died on Dec. 15 in the Los Angeles area. PEOPLE also confirmed Sean’s death by obtaining his death certificate.
The document indicated that Sean died from an upper gastrointestinal bleed, which was ultimately caused by “severe metabolic acidosis, esophageal varices and alcoholic liver cirrhosis,” PEOPLE reported.
Additionally Sean’s cousin, Rachel Leon, posted an emotional tribute to him on Instagram back in December.
“I’m heartbroken to share that my cousin Sean Swayze passed away today,” the post from Dec. 17, 2025 reads.
“He was always fun and full of life.Just recently, we were talking about him coming down to Texas to spend time with us, and I was really looking forward to it. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his brother Don Swayze and his children, Cassie Swayze, Kyle Swayze and Jesse Swayze,” Leon wrote. “We are praying hard for the entire family during this difficult time. Please know that we love you and are always here for you. Sean, I love you so much, and we will miss you dearly.”
Sean worked as an entertainment Teamster at the time of his death, PEOPLE noted. He is survived by a son and daughter.
Patrick Swayze, who was known for his roles in “Dirty Dancing,” “Ghost” and “Point Break,” died of cancer at the age of 57 in September 2009.
