Boeing’s ‘Doomsday Plane’ makes one of its first appearances in its 51-year history flying over America

Known as the ‘Doomsday Plane’ and built to survive nuclear events, the Boeing E-4B Nightwatch, under President Trump’s control, has made one of its first public appearances in its 51-year tenure.

The US President has a number of vehicles at their disposal, from armored cars like ‘The Beast’ to jumbo jets like Air Force One.

But tucked away in a hangar in Nebraska was one special plane that was carefully crafted by Boeing to be rolled into action in the most dire of times.

Now, with tensions rising in the US, the Doomsday Plane has been filmed making its first public appearance in 51 years to be moved to Camp Spring, just 25 minutes away from the White House.

Doomsday Plane spotted making its first flight in half a century

Back in 1974, Boeing offered two 747-2000B aircraft to the US Air Force to be modified and developed in its National Emergency Airborne Command Post (NEACP) program, replacing some of the older aircraft.

Boeing was then awarded a contract to turn the 747s into E-4s, with the second (E-4B) being specifically modified to keep the POTUS and American government active during nuclear warfare.

Despite reportedly being replaced by a new $13billion fleet in the coming years, President Trump has now called on the Doomsday Plane to be stationed back in its original home, just a 25-minute drive from the Washington, DC, government buildings.

Tracked from its hangar at the Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska, one Doomsday Plane made the three-hour trip to Joint Base Andrews (ADW) in Camp Springs, Maryland.

The Boeing E-4B was also reportedly filmed arriving in Los Angeles on Thursday, in a flight allegedly featuring the Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth, making its first public appearance since it was stationed in Nebraska over half a century ago.

The magnificent and advanced plane has been deployed on secret missions in the past, such as serving as an airborne command center during Hurricane Opal in 1995.

While the reason for moving the Nightwatch aircraft hasn’t been confirmed, escalated tensions between the US and Venezuela, and the US and NATO ally Denmark, coincide with the heightened defence alerts.

What makes the Boeing E-4B Nightwatch so special?

Much like Air Force One, the Boeing E-4B is modified beyond recognition from what a usual 747 looks like.

Starting with the huge, strange abscess on its head. The hump plays a significant role in keeping the plane active for days on end, allowing the Doomsday Plane to be refueled in the air.

Another hump at the rear, looking like an R2D2 companion, is a secure communications hub, tapping into the Milstar system and keeping any connections encrypted.

With space for 112 passengers, including some of the most important officials in the US government and POTUS themself, the Boeing E-4B also has defence measures like EMP shields.

As a real fortress in the air, the multi-billion-dollar plane is the most important aircraft in the world, although the United States hopes it will never need to be rolled into action.
