Canadian tennis legend Milos Raonic retires after 18 years

Canadian legend Milos Raonic retires from professional tennis after 18 years the sport, Raonic announced on X (formally known as Twitter).

The Thornhill, Ont. native was one of Canada’s highest ranked men’s players in the nation’s history, reaching as high as the No. 3 player in the world in November of 2016.

Raonic became the first Canadian to reach a Grand Slam final in 2016, when he fell to Andy Murray at Wimbledon.

The 35-year-old has won eight times on the ATP tour and reached tournament finals in 15 events.

Raonic’s last appearance was at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where he lost to Germany’s Dominik Koepfer in straight sets in the first round.

His last appearance in Canada was at the National Bank Open in Toronto in 2023, falling to American Mackenzie McDonald in the Round of 16.
