Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Yellowstone’ Sequel Gets a Glorious Filming Update

For fans who were starting to worry that the Beth-and-Rip Yellowstone sequel might quietly drift into development limbo, it’s time to saddle up. Taylor Sheridan isn’t slowing down — and The Dutton Ranch is very much alive. After a packed 2025 filming schedule in and around Fort Worth, cameras are rolling again on multiple Sheridan-created series, including The Dutton Ranch and Lioness. Local casting notices confirm that both productions resumed filming this week, with extras now being sought for upcoming scenes. Alongside returning Yellowstone favorites Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, The Dutton Ranch has added Jai Courtney in a key role as another rancher. He joins previously announced cast members Ed Harris and Annette Bening.
Filming on The Dutton Ranch has been underway since August, making it one of several Sheridan projects shooting concurrently in Texas. That list also includes Landman, which is about to conclude its second season on Paramount+ and is about to head to Season 3, and The Madison, whose second season filmed before Season 1 has even premiered. According to Texas-based Legacy Casting, The Dutton Ranch is currently staging an upscale party sequence in Ferris, Texas. Extras are being asked to portray high-end socialites celebrating an anniversary alongside the show’s main cast, with wardrobe requirements described as “fancy, high-end.” The scene reportedly evokes the opening party vibes of Netflix’s The Hunting Wives. The official logline sets the tone clearly:
“Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler are grateful for the peace they sought, fought, and nearly died for with their 7,000-acre Dutton Ranch. With tough times and stiff competition, Beth and Rip do what they must to survive, all while ensuring Carter becomes the man he’s supposed to be.”
What Other ‘Yellowstone’ Spin-Offs Are There?
The Dutton saga concluded last year with the series finale of Yellowstone, leaving only two Dutton children alive. Sorry about that, Jamie. With The Dutton Ranch set to follow Beth, the youngest Dutton sibling, Kayce (Luke Grimes), hasn’t been forgotten about either. The character has also gotten his own spin-off titled Y: Marshals.
“With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence,” reads the show’s official logline. In the new procedural, Kayce will try to balance his new job while raising a family.
Y: Marshals premieres on CBS midseason and will air on Sundays. The Dutton Ranch does not have a premiere date yet, but stay tuned to Collider for more information.
