Clemson puts a beat down on Boston College to start ACC play 5-0

No. 22 Clemson didn’t have its sharpest start Tuesday night, but once Nick Davidson caught fire, the outcome was never in doubt. Davidson scored 21 of his career-high 25 points in the first half as the Tigers pulled away from Boston College for a 74–50 win at Littlejohn Coliseum.

The Eagles hung around early and even grabbed a 15–13 lead midway through the first half. Clemson looked sluggish out of the gate, but Davidson flipped the game on its head with an explosive scoring run. The Nevada transfer poured in 21 straight points for the Tigers over a dominant stretch, nearly outscoring Boston College by himself during that span. Clemson carried a 37–27 lead into halftime behind Davidson’s hot shooting, as he went 7-for-9 from the field and knocked down four shots from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes.

The Tigers continued to build separation after the break. With Davidson dealing with foul trouble, R.J. Godfrey took control inside and scored all 10 of his points in the second half. His effort marked the sixth straight game he finished in double figures and helped Clemson stretch the lead to as many as 25 points. A three-pointer from Butta Johnson midway through the second half put the game firmly out of reach.

Davidson finished the night 8-for-11 from the floor, delivering his best performance in a Clemson uniform after entering the game averaging just 8.2 points per contest. Dillon Hunter once again provided steady production across the board, posting nine points, seven rebounds, and five assists while doing much of the dirty work.

The win was Clemson’s eighth in a row overall and its second straight by double digits after several tight finishes earlier in the streak. It also pushed the Tigers to a program-record 13 consecutive ACC regular-season victories dating back to last season.

Clemson will look to make it nine straight on Saturday when it stays home to host Miami. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:15 p.m.
