PS1 Ridge Racer Poised for PS5, PS4 via PS Plus Premium

According to a notorious leaker, this month’s PS Plus Premium addition will be the PS1 port of Ridge Racer – a curious addition considering an arcade perfect port of the iconic Namco outing already exists, via the industrious Hamster’s ongoing Arcade Archives series.
Despite being rightfully acclaimed at the time, this version of the game is compromised compared to its System 22 counterpart, running at 30fps on NTSC consoles – and a dire 25fps on PAL units. It also has downgraded visuals.
On the plus side, though, it features additional content – including eight extra cars which can be unlocked by completing the Galaxian minigame that occurs during loading.
Despite this, it feels like an odd inclusion for PS Plus Premium – especially when you consider the glacial rollout of these titles, and the fact that the original arcade version already exists on Sony’s contemporary consoles. Why not Ridge Racer Revolution or, better yet, Rage Racer?
This being a Bandai Namco joint, we can also be relatively certain no Trophies will be included, as that’s been consistent across all of the Japanese publisher’s emulated retro efforts thus far.
Of course, there may yet be more to the latest PS Plus Premium update, as only a partial list of titles has leaked thus far. Let’s cross our fingers for more than just PS1 Ridge Racer, eh?
