Jonathan Bailey, Ariana Grande to Star In Sunday in the Park

Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey are confirmed to star in the musical revival of Sunday in the Park With George in London in summer 2027.
The musical is set to play London’s Barbican Theatre with Marianne Elliott, who last directed Stephen Sondheim’s gender-swapped Company revival, helming the production.
The duo teased the news earlier Wednesday with an Instagram post of the two sitting in front of George Seurat’s painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, which is the basis for the Stephen Sondheim musical. The news was confirmed later Wednesday. Tickets for the season at the Barbican will go on sale in May 2026 .
The musical, which features a score by Sondheim and book by James Lapine, follows a fictionalized Seurat (Bailey) as he tries to complete the portrait, including his muse, Dot (Grande). The musical is produced by Empire Street Productions and presented in association with the Barbican.
This marks the West End debut for Grande, and comes on the heels of her Golden Globe nomination for Wicked: For Good. She is set to go on tour this year with her newest album, Eternal Sunshine. Grande began her career on Broadway in the musical 13. Grande told The Hollywood Reporter in November that she hoped to return to the stage.
“There are a few things floating around in my head, but I would love to do theater as well, and it’s something that I’m excited about,” Grande, who will next star in Focker in-Law, says. “I think as someone who started on Broadway, I would love to be on stage in that way again, and exercise a different muscle and continue to tell stories in different ways. I’m so lucky to be here, and I love acting. It’s really fun.”
Bailey has been a frequent presence in the West End, most recently starring in Richard II last year and in Cock in 2022. He also starred in the Elliot-directed revival of Company in 2018, for which he won the Laurence Olivier Award for best actor in a supporting role in a musical. The Jurassic World Rebirth and Bridgerton star said in 2025 that he’d be taking a pause on projects to focus on his LGBTQ+ charity The Shameless Fund.
The revival comes to the West End after last appearing on Broadway in 2017 starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Annaleigh Ashford. It originally opened on Broadway in 1984 starring Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters. The musical won the Pulitzer Prize for drama that year and was nominated for a Tony for best musical and won the Olivier for best musical.
