Watch: New Clip Reveals Origin Story Connecting The Main Characters In ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ – TrekMovie.com

The new show Star Trek: Starfleet Academy arrives in hours on Paramount+ (and for free on YouTube in the USA). As noted in our early review, the heart of this new series is the relationship between Cadet Caleb Mir, and Captain Ake, who recruits him to join Starfleet Academy. This new clip shows a key moment that bound their story together with season one villain, Nus Braka. NOTE: Clip contains SPOILERS.

“Colony”

The following clip is from the series premiere (“Kids These Days”) and it is set during the era of The Burn with Holly Hunter’s younger Captain Ake (who is a long-lived Lanthonite), where she is sitting in judgement over Nus Braka (Paul Giamatti) for piracy, which also involves Caleb Mir’s mother (Tatiana Maslany). In the series Caleb is played by Sandro Rosta, but in this tragic backstory clip, the younger Caleb is played by a child actor.

Bonus video: watch the Academy being built

All day long Paramount has been running a livestream video featuring the building of the set for the USS Athena/Starfleet Academy, which is Star Trek’s biggest ever set. Presumably the timelapse video will wrap up around midnight ET, when the series debuts.

 Thursday is almost here

The two-episode series premiere arrives on Paramount+ on Thursday, January 15, 2026. Its first season will run for ten episodes.

Here is the latest trailer, released earlier this week.
