Central Mass. pizzeria reopens with explanation for abruptly closing

A Central Mass. pizzeria is open again after suddenly closing last week but will now be closed on Mondays moving forwards, according to a video from the pizzeria’s owner.

Neko’s of New York, located in North Grafton, announced on Jan. 7 that they would be closed until further notice.

Neko Salameh, the owner of the pizzeria, posted a Facebook video on Jan. 8 providing an explanation for the abrupt closure.

Salameh said he closed the restaurant to renew Neko’s license, update his insurance, prepare to do his taxes and do other tasks. He then announced that the restaurant would be closed Mondays. In the description of the video, Salameh wrote that he needed a day off.

“Choose Neko’s of New York when you guys want to eat,” Salameh said. “Slices, burritos, whatever it is.”

Salameh told MassLive the pizzeria reopened on Jan. 8.

Those who commented on Salameh’s video expressed relief that the pizzeria would open again.

“Glad the stories weren’t true,” one user wrote. “We’re gonna have to come by and get some of the best pizza ever!!”

Others wrote that they respected Salameh’s decision to close the restaurant on Mondays.

“Glad you’re taking Mondays off,” wrote another Facebook user. “Trust me, life goes by in a blink.”

The pizzeria at 135 Westboro St. sells a variety of pizzas, including “New York-style,” “Detroit-style” and “Big Party Pizzas,” according to its website.

The restaurant also serves other options such as sandwiches, wings, burritos and teriyaki bowls, the website reads.

Salameh told MassLive that the pizzeria is operated by him and his girlfriend and that they are looking to hire one more pizza-maker.

“It’s hard to find someone to even begin training them,” Salameh said. “Most of the time, people don’t realize the difficulty of making Detroit, New York, Sicilian or Big Party Pizza.”
