Report: Mets Expect Answer on Tucker “Relatively Soon”

Per Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets expect an answer from Kyle Tucker “relatively soon” as the free agent mulls his options. Puma added that the Mets don’t currently have a read on which way the former Cub might be leaning. It’s been reported that the Mets have offered a three-year, $150 deal, and they have added a fourth year to that offer.

Jim Duquette reported on MLB Network Radio that the Mets have “likely” added a fourth year to their previously reported three-year, $150 million deal to Kyle Tucker. The deal would likely involve at least one opt-outs.

Update: Fansided‘s Robert Murray says the Mets have offered Tucker a short-term deal at an average of $50 million per season. Inferring from Sammon’s reporting below that they’ve offered Tucker three years, that could mean they’ve offered Tucker a deal worth around $150 million.

Will Sammon of The Athletic revealed that the per industry sources the Mets offer to Kyle Tucker is in the range of $120-140 million across three years. It is possible the Mets could increase their offer if bidding continues. The Mets held multiple video conferences with Tucker across the last week.

Sammon also mentioned that “multiple industry sources suggested that a decision from Tucker, who turns 29 on Saturday, could come as early as this week.” Tucker’s contact preference in terms of length and AAV is unknown.

The Diamondbacks are acquiring third baseman Nolan Arenado from the St. Louis Cardinals per Jeff Passan of ESPN. Katie Woo of The Athletic connected was the first to mention a trade was close. Arenado is a 10-time gold glove winner and seven time silver slugger winner, but is coming off a season where he slashed .237/.289/.377. He will look to bounce back in Arizona. Arenado had a no trade clause that he had to waive to approve this trade. The Cardinals are covering $31 million of Arenado’s remianing salary of $42 million. They got back 2025 8th-round draft pick Jack Martinez in return for Arenado.

The Diamondbacks have also signed Jonathan Loáisiga to a minor-league deal Jorge Castillo of ESPN.

Passan also reported the San Francisco Giants are “aggressively” going after infielders Nico Hoerner of the Cubs and Brendan Donovan of the Cardinals in trades.
