After Weeks of Leading Apple TV’s Charts, ‘Pluribus’ Was Just Overtaken by This Claustrophobic Thriller Series

When Pluribus first arrived on Apple TV, it instantly made history. Not only was the series a hit among critics and viewers alike, but the Vince Gilligan-created show became Apple TV’s biggest and most-watched series of all-time. But after reigning supreme in the streaming charts since its release on November 7, 2025, the series has officially lost the top spot. According to FlixPatrol, the top TV series on Apple TV is now Hijack, a thriller starring Idris Elba that just released its long-awaited second season.

What Is ‘Hijack’ About?

The first season of Hijack, which premiered on June 28, 2023, follows Elba as Sam Nelson, a lawyer and corporate negotiator who’s onboard a seven-hour flight from Dubai to London when it becomes hijacked by criminals. Throughout the season, while governments from around Europe get involved and investigate the team of hijackers, Sam becomes instrumental in de-escalating tensions, calming fellow passengers, and communicating with the officials below. Without giving too much away, Sam becomes the secret weapon onboard, guaranteeing that the worst-case scenario doesn’t come true.

In Season 2, Sam finds himself in another crisis two years after the plane hijack, this time onboard an underground train in Germany. “In the thrilling second season of Hijack, a Berlin underground train and its commuters are taken hostage, while, above ground, authorities scramble to save hundreds of lives,” the synopsis reads. “Sam Nelson is at the heart of the crisis on board, where one wrong decision could spell disaster.” Notably, however, while Sam was undoubtedly the good guy in Season 1, the trailer for Season 2 makes it murky, hinting that he’s not only involved, but could be behind the whole thing. After all, what are the chances Sam finds himself in another terrorist attack by pure chance?

‘Hijack’ Season 2 Is Apple TV’s Next Bingeable Hit

If Season 1 is any indication, Season 2 of Hijack will be another bingeable hit. Season 1 of the series delivered in high-stakes excitement, earning 90% on Rotten Tomatoes and being applauded for the performances and the high-paced, heart-thumping narrative alike. At the center, Elba delivered a character who not only oozes an unwavering confidence that makes even the hijackers trust him, but who can also soften in more tender moments too. “He is the kind of actor who can be believable in almost any role that you give him, and that’s no different here,” wrote Collider’s very own Nate Richard at the time.

In Season 2, creators George Kay and Jim Field Smith will likely continue the same pattern. This time in a more morally gray standing, Elba will once again take center stage with a new crop of secondary characters who either help the problem, worsen the hijack, or, at times, become major red herrings. So far, only one episode of Season 2 has been released, with the subsequent episodes set to release every Wednesday on Apple TV until the finale on March 4, 2026.

All things considered, it’s perhaps no surprise that Hijack has bumped Pluribus from its top spot on Apple TV. After all, given that Pluribus has been out for over two months, and Hijack is as gripping as a series can get, the series will likely become Apple TV’s next hit. With a major twist in the trailer alone, it seems Season of the series will certainly deliver with another thrilling adventure.
