A Channel 4 star has sadly died.

Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer have delivered a touching tribute to Richard Curtis, who featured on their Channel 4 show Love It or List It. The programme follows the presenting pair as they help homeowners struggling with their properties and guide them through refurbishments.

In yesterday’s episode, audiences were introduced to a couple from St Osyth, Essex, who were determined to revamp their coastal bungalow that had deteriorated. Sadly one of the participants has died since the episode was filmed.

An emotional tribute featured on Love It or List It urged audiences to seek prostate cancer screening, bearing the words “In Loving Memory of Richard Curtis,” reports the Mirror.

“Kirstie, Phil and all at Raise The Roof Productions were deeply saddened to learn of Richard’s passing. We’d like to send our deepest and heartfelt condolences to Karol and the rest of the family.”

During the programme, Richard recalled: “Karol invited me for a coffee and I never moved out.” The pair purchased a three-bedroom house near Clacton on Sea Richard revealed: “Tomorrow is my birthday and I’m 67. Just after my 60th birthday I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and it was locally advanced, so it had gone further than they’d like it to go.”

Battling cancer long-term, Richard was receiving hormone therapy during filming. However, halfway through the episode, his treatment shifted to chemotherapy.

Karol explained: “Not long after he was diagnosed, he had quite a bad reaction to some medication, to the point that he couldn’t work, and if it ever came to the point where I had to get him up or down stairs I just wouldn’t have been able to, so we decided that we’d need a bungalow.”

The pair relocated to their new property with their two German Shepherds, Karol remained less enthusiastic about the house than Richard and wanted to put it on the market, whereas Richard adored the place.

Discussing his treatment later in the programme, Richard shared: “You hear about chemo, everybody reacts different to it. I’m six weeks into my treatment, I’ve still got another four and a half months. I’m looking after my health, Karol’s looking after my health. I do work where I can, and if I can’t do it, I don’t do it.”

By the end of the show the duo had transformed their property, adding kitchen storage, other aesthetic improvements and installing new flooring.

“I’m looking forward to be able to sit here in the evening and not think, ‘That’s got to be done but I haven’t got the energy,” Richard shared with Phil. “In life, if something goes wrong, you either put up with it, get on or you give up on life, and we don’t give up on life,” he declared.
