Blues’ Oskar Sundqvist exits after being cut by skate vs. Oilers

St. Louis Blues fans will be holding their breath, hoping for the best for one of their forwards.

Centre Oskar Sundqvist had quite the scare on Sunday night as he had to exit the game against the Edmonton Oilers after being cut by a skate on his lower body.

“Luckily it did not touch his Achilles,” head coach Jim Montgomery said after the game. “So it’s just going to be now, how long he’s out, it’s day-to-day… We know the cut was deep, I don’t know how long that takes until he’s back and has the flexibility in his ankle without hurting the cut.”

While trying to make a play on Connor McDavid in the offensive zone, Sundqvist slipped on the ice and slid into McDavid along the boards.

While the two were tangled up, a skate appeared to cut the Blues centre and he was immediately helped back to his team’s locker room.

Sundqvist, 31, is a steady bottom-six centre for the Blues. He has three goals and 10 assists in 38 games this season — his third in St. Louis since rejoining the team ahead of the 2023-24 season.

The Oilers won the game 5-0.
