FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University men’s basketball team (17-1, 5-0) hosts DMV rival George Washington (12-6, 3-2) for an MLK Day battle on Monday in Fairfax.
Tip-off between the Patriots and Revolutionaries is set for 5 p.m. Monday’s game will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network, featuring commentary from John Sadak, Roy Hibbert and Brandon Baylor. In addition, Voice of the Patriots Bill Rohland will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with streaming coverage beginning at 4:45 p.m.

• The Patriots are 17-1 for the first time in school history and 5-0 in A-10 play for the first time in program annals. GMU is one of just seven programs nationally to have 17 or more wins.
• Since the start of the 2024-25 season, George Mason leads the A-10 and ranks t-7th nationally in total wins (44).

HISTORY vs. GEORGE WASHINGTON
Monday’s game marks the 39th all time meeting between George Mason and George Washington in men’s basketball. The schools are separated by just 20 miles and are situated on the same DC Metro line (Orange). George Mason has won 12 of the past 17 matchups and holds an 8-6 edge in Fairfax. Overall, GW holds a 24-14 advantage in the series. The Patriots swept all three matchups last season, capped by an 80-65 win in the A-10 Championship quarterfinals on March 14 at Capital One Arena. The two regular season games were decided by a total of six points, with the Fairfax game going to double overtime.

George Washington was picked to finish fourth in the A-10 preseason poll. The Revolutionaries went 9-4 in non-conference play, highlighted by a 99-95 neutral floor victory over top-75 foe South Florida. GW is 3-2 to begin A-10 play and is coming off an 84-79 home loss to Davidson Wednesday. The team features the No. 31 KenPom offense in the nation (1.215 points/possession) and shoots 58.1 percent from inside the arc (32nd nationally). Preseason All-A-10 First Team selection Rafael Castro ranks sixth in the league in scoring (16.3 ppg), third in rebounds/game (8.5 rpg) and 11th nationally in field goal percentage (.654). Garrett Johnson adds 13.5 points/contest, while Duquesne transfer Tre Dinkins is at 11.1 points/contest and is 28th nationally in 3pt percentage (.425). Trey Autry (10.9 ppg) and Christian Jones (10.6) round out the double figure scorers for former George Mason assistant coach Chris Caputo.
