Breaking Down Nicola Peltz and Victoria Beckham’s Wedding Dress Drama: Did the Designer Actually Refuse to Make Nicola’s Gown?

NEED TO KNOW

  • Nicola Peltz Beckham wore a Valentino Haute Couture gown for her 2022 nuptials to Brooklyn Beckham

  • The actress initially claimed that there was no bad blood over Victoria Beckham not making her gown

  • Brooklyn later alleged that his mom backed out of making Nicola’s wedding dress in the “eleventh hour”

Rumblings of a feud in the Beckham family began in 2022 when Victoria Beckham and David Beckham’s eldest son, Brooklyn Beckham, married Nicola Peltz Beckham.

For the Palm Beach nuptials, Nicola wore a Valentino Haute Couture gown with a sleeveless square neckline and a cathedral-length train. At the time of the wedding, Nicola told British Vogue that choosing a Valentino dress was a “no-brainer.”

However, sources later told PEOPLE in May 2025 that there were “tensions between Brooklyn and Nicola and the family” that arose as a result of the gown. An insider alleged that Victoria, who founded her clothing label in 2008, declined to make Nicola’s wedding dress.

Almost four years after the wedding, Brooklyn shared a string of bombshell Instagram Stories where he claimed, among other statements, that his mother canceled making Nicola’s wedding dress “in the eleventh hour.”

Here’s everything to know about Nicola Peltz Beckham’s wedding dress and how her mother-in-law, Victoria Beckham, was reportedly involved.

Nicola wore Valentino Haute Couture when she wed Brooklyn at her parent’s estate in Palm Beach, Fla., in April 2022. The breathtaking gown had a sleeveless square neckline and a cathedral-length train.

Nicola accessorized with a long French lace veil and matching gloves. After tying the knot, the bride — who also wore Valentino to the 2021 Met Gala — reflected on her decision to choose the label and told British Vogue that it was a “no-brainer.”

“Seeing all the runway dresses in real life was so magic. It looked like someone’s dream closet,” Nicola told the publication of visiting the atelier.

Nicola’s stylist, Leslie Fremar, added that they each enjoyed how “magnificent” the dress was in its “simplicity.”

“We didn’t have to overly detail the dress to accomplish the magnitude of it, so we ended up eliminating the embroidery,” Fremar explained of adding the lace gloves and train.

While an exact timeline for Nicola’s gown hasn’t been shared, both she and Fremar told British Vogue that they worked with Valentino’s creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli for a year.

Nicola and Fremar said they had a year’s worth of conversations with Piccioli and took two trips to the fashion house’s headquarters in Rome. In addition to visiting the atelier twice, Nicola also had two fittings in the United States that included the head seamstress traveling to Miami to measure every detail.

“It was the ultimate couture experience,” Fremar told the outlet.

A few months after Nicola and Brooklyn married, they addressed rumors of a feud that arose as a result of Nicola not wearing a Victoria-designed wedding dress. At the time, they both shut down speculation that there was any bad blood.

“I was going to [wear Victoria Beckham] and I really wanted to, and then a few months down the line, she realized that her atelier couldn’t do it, so then I had to pick another dress,” Nicola told Variety in August 2022. “She didn’t say you can’t wear it; I didn’t say I didn’t want to wear it. That’s where it started, and then they ran with that.”

Brooklyn chimed in to double down on denying the feud rumors and told the outlet, “I’ve learned they’re always going to try to write stuff like that. They’re always going to try and put people down. But everyone gets along, which is good.”

Nearly four years after Brooklyn and Nicola’s wedding, he addressed the long-standing rumors that Nicola and Victoria butted heads over her wedding dress. On Jan. 19, Brooklyn posted a series of Instagram Stories in which he claimed that Victoria was supposed to design Nicola’s dress, but she backed out.

“My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped,” he wrote in one of the slides. “My mum cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour, despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress.” (Nicola and Fremar told British Vogue they worked on what became her wedding dress with Valentino for a year.)

Neither Victoria nor David have addressed the allegation or the other claims Brooklyn made about their relationship. Prior to Brooklyn’s bombshell public posts, a source told PEOPLE in May 2025 that Victoria was initially on board to design the dress, but that changed when Victoria allegedly called Nicola’s mother to tell her that she didn’t have the time to make it.

“When Nicola and Brooklyn [Beckham] got engaged, Victoria told Nicola that she’d love to make her wedding dress, and Nicola said it would be her honor, that she would love to wear one of her originals,” the insider claimed.

The source added that “Nicola was painted as a brat for not wearing Victoria Beckham at the wedding,” but she had already worn Victoria’s dresses to several events — including her engagement photos with Brooklyn in July 2020 and her Lola movie premiere in 2024.

While Victoria has stayed silent about the wedding dress drama, she has previously designed dresses for her famous friends. In 2016, Victoria wrote that she was “honored” to make her longtime friend Eva Longoria’s wedding dress when she married husband José Bastón.

The Desperate Housewives actress told PEOPLE at the time that she could think of “no better person to do it than Victoria,” so they worked together in her London atelier.

“I went to London a couple times for fittings and we went over fabric and styles,” Longoria said of the process. “She pulled out all these fabrics and every single dress she’s ever made. We looked at all the tops, bottoms, zippers, styles, and it was a really fun experience.”
