Microsoft Outlook Outage Leaves Users Without Email; Tech Company Working On Resolving Issue

Microsoft has found what caused an outage that crippled its services like Outlook and Teams.

Thousands of users swarmed to social media to find out what was happening with their e-mails during the middle of the business day.

It turns out that Microsoft was experiencing an outage with Microsoft 365 services, with more than 11,000 users reporting issues on the tracking site Down Detector.

The outage partially paralyzed Hollywood on Thursday, with people resorting to calling and texting as important emails were not going through.

A statement from Microsoft on X read, “We’re investigating a potential issue impacting multiple Microsoft 365 services, including Outlook, Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Purview.”

Moments later, the team shared an update saying they had “identified a portion of service infrastructure in North America that is not processing traffic as expected.”

It wasn’t long before the tech company updated its users, “restored the affected infrastructure to a healthy state,” and began “directing traffic to alternate infrastructure to achieve recovery.”

“We’re rebalancing traffic across all affected infrastructure to ensure the environment enters into a balanced state. We’re proceeding as quickly as possible, and this approach will help us identify any additional actions needed for recovery,” read the latest update from Microsoft.

The Outlook snag follows significant outages in Verizon Wireless and X service this month. In the case of Verizon, whose wireless customers were unable to call or text for several hours, the company blamed a “software outage” and has offered customers $20 toward their bill. With X, formerly Twitter, there was no immediate explanation by the company for the technical problems, which were resolved at the end of last Friday. Some mobile users also reported trouble on Thursday, though the reports were fewer than during the earlier outage.
