National winter storm warning in effect, scattered showers approach Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — An area of low pressure currently spinning off the coast of California will have minor impacts for us here in Southern Nevada.

Expect another day of mostly cloudy skies with a slight chance of rain for today through early tomorrow morning.

Best timing for the rain looks to be early Saturday morning between 4am and 8am. Temperatures today will remain near seasonal averages with a high of 63 degrees.

For tomorrow, after the morning chance of rain, skies should quickly clear out as the winds begin to pick up. Winds for tomorrow afternoon will get gusty at times with north winds up to 30mph.

Temperatures will fall tomorrow with a high temperature of 60 Degrees. The coolest day in the next 7-10 days will be Sunday with Partly Cloudy skies and a high of 56 Degrees.

Nationally, Weather will get ugly for the weekend with 25 states under some sort of Winter Storm Watch or Warning.

Airlines have preemptively cancelled hundreds of flights for this weekend, anticipating severe weather impacts. Some parts of the Carolinas, along with parts of Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi and Texas, could see a major ice storm with crippling infrastructure impacts expected.

Speaking of Frigid, extremely cold conditions continue for the upper Midwest with Minneapolis expecting a forecasted high temperature of -9 with wind chills down near 35 to 40 degrees below zero.

Be thankful that we live in Southern Nevada as you get out and enjoy the upcoming weekend.
