MUN Divesting Itself of Harlow and Signal Hill Campuses, Geo Centre and Printing Services Building

Memorial University is bringing down the hammer, reducing operations and “right-sizing” – all in effort to make up for a $25-milion deficit.
MUN recently shuffled the executive deck as a first step, but then unleashed the big blow today.
The Board of Regents is divesting itself of real estate that it says is not central to the academic mission.
MUN’s Harlow Campus (Memorial University)
The Signal Hill campus, Harlow in the U.K., the Johnson Geo Centre and the Ingstad Building on Elizabeth Avenue, which houses MUN Printing Services, are going on the market.
MUN President Dr. Janet Morrison says timelines are associated with most of the facilities, and that the Johnson GEO Centre will open as usual in the spring but will close for good if not sold or transferred by the end of the calendar year.

Signal Hill will continue operating as is, but will close in April 2027 if not sold or transferred.
The university had been facing a $20-million deficit but government’s order to freeze tuition next fall added another $5-million to the shortfall.
