Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day

Roma to win to nil

Panathinaikos vs Roma
Europa League, 8pm tonight

Panathinaikos are guaranteed a place in the Europa League playoff round following last week’s 1-1 draw at Ferencvaros but the Greek side may struggle to land a blow on matchday-eight visitors Roma.

Last week’s trip to Budapest pitted Panathinaikos coach Rafael Benitez against Ferencvaros manager Robbie Keane, who played under Benitez at Liverpool.

Keane came agonisingly close to claiming a win over his old boss as Panathinaikos needed an 86th-minute goal from substitute Anass Zaroury to avoid defeat in Hungary.

Panathinaikos lost 4-0 at AEK Athens and drew 0-0 at Atromitos either side of that fixture and Roma should be backed to win to nil.

They are sixth in the table after winning five of their seven games but cannot afford to ease up as they chase a top-eight finish.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have won four of their last six matches in all competitions, all of them by a 2-0 scoreline, and they should handle a hostile atmosphere in Greece.

Roma’s away trips in Europe this term include a 2-0 win at Rangers and a comprehensive 3-0 victory at Celtic, where they scored three first-half goals, and they can outclass their hosts on matchday eight.

Odds: 2-1 with Hills
