Christ Makosso Signs For Oxford United

Oxford United are delighted to announce the signing of Republic of Congo international Christ Makosso on loan from Luton Town, with an option to buy.
The highly rated 21-year-old defender arrives having already built an impressive reputation in the Championship, after being named Luton Town’s Young Player of the Year last season. An athletic and dominant presence, Makosso has earned five senior international caps for Congo.
He will begin training on Monday ahead of joining the squad for Tuesday night’s Sky Bet Championship fixture away at Sheffield United.
Speaking after completing the move, Makosso said: “I’m very excited to be joining Oxford United and to be back playing in the Championship.
“I have a strong relationship with the gaffer. He played a big role in my development at Luton and knows my game inside out.
“This move feels right for my career and I’m ready to help the team immediately. I want to bring success to the Club and I can’t wait to get started.”
Head Coach Matt Bloomfield said: “When I arrived at Luton, Christ had just signed and was in the Under-21 side. It was immediately clear he had something special. He took his opportunity in the first team with real authority.
“Christ adapted quickly to the Championship, which is never easy for a young player arriving in a new country. Athletically he is exceptional. He is quick, powerful and brave, and defends the box with real conviction.
“He has an extremely high ceiling but, just as importantly, is ready to come in and improve the group right now.”
Head of Football Operations Ed Waldron added: “Christ is a young, high-potential defender who perfectly fits the profile we are targeting. He is athletic, aggressive and an outstanding box defender, with significant scope for further development.
“We have followed Christ closely since his time in Belgium and his progression at Luton has only reinforced our belief in his potential. While his existing relationship with Matt was important, this was very much a signing that aligned with our long-term recruitment strategy and scouting model.
“We are confident Christ will have a strong impact this season and develop into an even more exciting player in the future.”
