ICC T20 World Cup 2026: Pakistan vs Ireland warm-up match abandoned

In a major setback for Pakistan and Ireland, their warm-up match before the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 was called off due to rain. The teams couldn’t take the field, and the officials decided to abandon the contest after the conditions didn’t improve in Colombo. This was the only game for the two nations before the start of the global tournament on February 7.

Pakistan recently defeated Australia 3-0 in a three-match T20I series, with the batters and spinners dominating the rivals on slow and spinning tracks in Lahore. The conditions and pitches are expected to be similar in Sri Lanka, where the Men in Green will play all of their matches, including the clash against arch-rivals India on February 15.

Meanwhile, the government of Pakistan has told the team to boycott the match against the Men in Blue, leading to a warning from the ICC. The back channel diplomacy has started to end the latest controversy.
