Large police cordon put in place around Birmingham Library following police ‘welfare’ incident

West Midlands Police have said that they were in attendance at Chamberlain Square, Birmingham, today, where a large cordon was put into place over the welfare of a man. 

The force confirmed that a cordon remained in place as of 1.42pm, with no nearby roads being affected.

A police cordon has been placed around Birmingham Library following the welfare check of a man

It comes after police attended Birmingham Library over concerns for the welfare of a man, who is said to be on the building’s roof. 

A force spokesperson said: “We are currently at Chamberlain Square following concerns for the welfare of a man. 

“A cordon remains in place, but nearby roads are not affected.”

All emergency services were in response to the incident, with West Midlands Poliec confirming that a cordon had been placed around the building

Pictures sent to the Express & Star also show West Midlands Ambulance Service and West Midlands Fire Service in attendance. 

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that one ambulance, a paramedic officer, and a Hazardous Area Response Team are in attendance at the incident.

An ambulance service spokesperson said: “We were called shortly after 11am to concerns for a patient’s welfare on Broad Street, Birmingham. 

“One ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Hazardous Area Response Team are currently in attendance at the scene.”

No roads are said to be affected by the cordon, and the incident remains ongoing.
