Report: Marathon Ranked Mode Details Surface About Scoring, Holotags and More

While Sony has announced that Bungie’s extraction shooter, Marathon, will be released in March, not a lot of info about the game has come to light — especially when it comes to the game’s ranked mode.
That changes today, as MP1st has managed to get ahold of a significant amount of info regarding Marathon’s ranked mode thanks to reliable dataminer and leaker, X0X_Leak,
Before diving in, note that the information is unofficial, and, as with any leak, things could change. Having said that, with the game releasing in a month’s time, we don’t expect the ranked info below to change.
Marathon Ranked Mode Ranks and Info Unearthed
To play ranked mode in Marathon, crew members must select a zone, assemble a loadout that matches or exceeds the gear ante, and purchase a Holotag to set the score target with. Important to note that Holotags are required to enter ranked mode.
From the findings, the zones featured in ranked will change each week to spice things up.
As for rank progress, it’s initiated by extracting high-value loot. Progress is made based on the credit value of the loot found during the run, and players must meet or exceed the set score target to make progress.
Ranks
- Bronze
- Silver
- Gold
- Platinum
- Diamond
- Pinnacle
There was a mention of a “Master” rank, which we’re assuming is for the very best of the best; or the top percentile of players in the world.
Each rank has three subdivisions. One example is I, II, III ranks, leveing up to Silver I, Silver II, Silver III and so on.
When it comes to ranked rewards, players can expect cosmetic items, with some available directly for players to equip, while other rewards will be given after the season is over.
Zones
All players will have access to low-stakes zones for Ranked matches and players ranked Platinum or higher will have access to high-stakes zones.
Scoring and Failing to Extract
To mark a score in a match, players must have a Holotag equipped to contribute to the score. No Holotag means no contribution to the score.
If players exfil a ranked match but have not reached the set score, this will translate to no loss in rank progress, but the player will also not gain anything.
As for failing to extract, that’s a point loss equal to the set Score target.
