LEGO has officially unveiled 11389 Project Hail Mary, a brand new set that ties into the upcoming movie of the same name, starring Ryan Gosling as Dr. Ryland Grace.

Project Hail Mary is a critically acclaimed sci-fi novel by Andy Weir (who also wrote The Martian), and has been adapted as a movie by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (directors of The LEGO Movie), which releases in theatres worldwide in late March 2026.

This 830-piece model lets you build a microscale version of The Hail Mary, a Starship where Dr Ryland Grace mysteriously finds himself awake on, alone until he discovers Rocky, an alien engineer from Tau Ceti.

11389 Project Hail Mary will be released on 1 March 2026, and will be available from LEGO.com or your local LEGO Store with pre-orders open now.

The set does come with a Dr Ryland Grace minifigure, marking Ryan Gosling’s long-awaited debut as a LEGO minifigure, plus a buildable model of Rocky.

This is a pretty interesting model that’s been adapted to a LEGO Icons set. As a fan of the sci-fi genre, I’m glad that we’re getting an Andy Weir LEGO model, and I’m really looking forward to watching Project Hail Mary when it debuts in theatres. The book is excellent, and if you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it if you enjoy short, standalone sci-fi stories.

The fact that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are attached to this project probably helped LEGO and Amazon MGM Studios come together to produce this model, but this seems like a big bet from LEGO that this does well at the box office to capture some of the excitement from the movie and its fans.

It’s a big bet because Project Hail Mary isn’t one of those properties which have a massive in-built fanbase, but kudos to LEGO for continuing to show faith in original sci-fi stories. I’m just glad this isn’t another Star Wars/Trek/Marvel IP tie-in!

The model itself looks good, and very accurate to the Hail Mary starship we see in the trailers. Book readers will be wondering about those panels that extend from the ship. I don’t believe those are solar panels (I’m not going to spoil a key part of the plot of why Dr Ryland Grace is in space), but let’s just say that the Hail Mary doesn’t need to rely on solar power.

It does look quite small, although if you enjoy the movie, having a tie-in adult toy, plus Ryan Gosling’s minifigure is a nice bonus.

The pricing for the set is all over the place, however. At US$99.99 / AU$179.99 / £99.99 / €109.99 / CAD$129.99, the conversion seems to be all over the place, with the US getting a really good deal on this set compared to other countries.

That said, it does feel quite small for a model that’s only 30cm (12 in.) tall (thanks to the stand) and 22cm (8.5 in) wide, and I really think that this should’ve been priced at U$79.99 at the most to give the set a better chance at success.

It really depends on how well Project Hail Mary does in the box office, but even then, this feels quite overpriced when compared against other LEGO Icons/licensed sets.

What do you think of the Project Hail Mary LEGO set?
