Why Scott Hamilton keeps saying no to ‘Dancing With The Stars’

MILAN, Italy — Scott Hamilton is a famous American figure skater and Olympic gold medalist. He has a role as a broadcaster at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. Hamilton, 67, won the men’s singles title at the 1984 Winter Games and has stayed connected to skating for many years.
Beyond his competitive skating career, Hamilton has also received offers to appear on popular television shows. One of the most talked-about offers came from “Dancing With the Stars,” a reality TV competition where celebrities learn to dance on live television. Hamilton told reporters he has been asked to compete on the show many times.
The former Olympian said he has turned down the chance to be on “Dancing With the Stars” nine times. Hamilton said he doesn’t feel confident about his dancing skills, and he prefers to stick with things he knows well. “I can’t dance,” he explained, adding that even though others learn on the show, he would rather watch than compete.
Several filmmakers have wanted to make a biographical film about him. Hamilton said he has refused the idea three times, though one offer remains open.
Even though Hamilton won’t be dancing on TV, he has a lot to look forward to at the Olympics. This year marks his tenth time covering the Winter Games, tying a record for figure skating commentary.
