Trimble’s last-second 3 gives UNC victory over rival Duke :: WRAL.com

CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina senior Seth Trimble forever secured his place in the Duke-UNC rivalry.

Trimble’s 3-pointer from the corner with 0.4 seconds remaining gave the 14th-ranked Tar Heels their first – and only – lead of the game in a 71-68 victory at the Smith Center in Chapel Hill.

Fans stormed the court and had to be ushered off for Duke’s final play, which didn’t result in a shot.

North Carolina trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half and 11 in the second half. The Tar Heels trailed 66-62 with 2:51 remaining, but scored the final nine points on three 3-pointers.

Trimble had 16 points. His final 3-pointer was his lone attempt from long distance in the game. 

Freshman Caleb Wilson led UNC with 23 points.

Freshman Cameron Boozer led Duke with 24 points. He missed a shot at the rim with the game tied at 68 with 15 seconds remaining.

Henri Veesaar, who didn’t score in the first half, had 13 second-half points for UNC, including the game-tying 3-pointer with 1:40 remaining.
