Dense fog to blanket Tri-Cities region. Caution urged for commuters

Kennewick, Wash.
Tri-Cities drivers should be prepared for areas of dense fog on their Friday morning commute, with thick fog possibly lingering until 1 p.m.
At areas of higher elevations in Eastern Washington and Oregon, visibility could be reduced to as low as a quarter of a mile starting on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
Above 2,000 feet in areas such as the Blue Mountains, dense fog was forecast for Thursday afternoon and evening, with fog expanding to lower elevations overnight.
Much of the Tri-Cities is at about 400 feet, with an elevation of almost 1,600 feet at Badger Mountain.
While fog should clear some Friday afternoon, more patchy fog is possible in the Tri-Cities after 7 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Saturday, but it is not expected to be as dense. With lows forecast in the mid to high 30s, the fog is not expected to freeze in the Tri-Cities.
Drivers who run into dense fog should slow down and use their low-beam headlights, or fog lights it they have them, according to the weather service. High beams may cause glare, making seeing what’s ahead more difficult.
To ensure you are in the proper lane, follow the lines on the road.
In extremely dense fog, turn on your hazard lights and pull into a parking lot, if possible, or as far off the side of the road as possible and turn off all lights except hazard flashing lights, according to the weather service.
The forecast for fog in the Tri-Cities will be followed by weekend rain.
The chance of rain is forecast at 30% Saturday night and 60% Sunday.
The sun should shine on the Tri-Cities on Monday, but partly to mostly cloudy weather is forecast from Monday night through Wednesday night.
