Feb 06, 2026 —
In the Adirondack High Peaks on Saturday, the sun will rise at 7:06 am and set at 5:14 pm. We’re gaining more than two and a half minutes of sunlight each day.
Extreme cold is expected to settle into the Adirondacks through this weekend, with dangerously cold windchills of 20 to 40 below expected.
Summits will be even colder. Daytime temperatures near 10 below and winds 30-35 miles per hour, will bring windchills on summits to the 40s below zero both Saturday and Sunday.
This cold weather could make this the weekend that Lake Champlain freezes completely over for the first time since March of 2019. It will be dangerously cold and it’s best to avoid any extended trips outside.
There is at least one to two feet of snow everywhere around the Adirondack Park at lower elevations. There is about four feet of snow at Lake Colden and another foot or two everywhere above about 3,000 feet.
Tomorrow we could see up to six inches of new snow on western slopes in the western Adirondacks, and at least a few inches in the Northern Adirondacks.
The gate to Corey’s Road is closed due to recent snows and the narrowing roads. Four wheel drive vehicles are recommended up to the Raquette Falls trail parking lot.
Aside from the dangerously cold weather, ski conditions are good and nearly all snowmobile trails are open in the Adirondacks.
If you do go out, keep it short stretches with plenty of opportunity to bail out if the cold proves too much.
