The A19 has been closed in both directions and a ‘blue tent’ erected after a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle. The dual carriageway was shut both northbound and southbound from the A1046 Haverton Hill Road (Portrack Interchange) to the A139 ( Norton Interchange).
Huge traffic queues were reported right across Teesside as the incident caused multiple roads to become congested. One driver said a “blue tent” had been erected just before the Tees flyover on the northbound side.
Here’s the key details that we know so far on this incident:
1) The incident was first reported at 7.13am.
2) Police closed the A19 in both directions from Pennine Avenue (Portrack Interchange) to A1027 (Norton Interchange). Congestion was reported to the A174.
3) A passing motorist told Teesside Live: “There was a blue tent up on the actual carriageway, just before the flyover. It was on the side of the A19 as if you’re driving towards Hartlepool – northbound. Police were turning people around on the road so they were having to drive on the wrong side of the road.”
4) The North East Ambulance has said: “We were called just before 7am today (9 FEB) to an incident on the A19 Fleet Bridge Road. We dispatched two paramedic ambulances, a doctor, a specialist paramedic and a clinical team leader to attend a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle.”
5) Cleveland Police has said: “ROAD CLOSURE! The A19 is currently closed in both directions between Portrack and the A139 at Billingham bottoms. The road is expected to remain closed for some time, following a report of a collision. Please use alternative routes, and thank you for your patience.”
