Raptors’ Jakob Poeltl to return from lengthy injury absence against Pistons

Rajakovic added that Poeltl will be on an unspecified minutes restriction.

Poeltl has played in just 21 games this season, and none since a short seven-minute stint on Dec. 21, as he has battled nagging back pain.

However, the Austrian big man has ramped up in recent days, and will get a comfortable landing spot against the Pistons, who will be without suspended frontcourt stars Jalen Duren and Isaiah Stewart following a Monday brawl against the Charlotte Hornets.

Poeltl, 30, has averaged 9.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in his limited action while connecting on 64.9 per cent of his field-goal attempts and 58.3 per cent of his free throws.

Rookie Collin Murray-Boyles, who has often filled in for Poeltl as an undersized centre, is out against the Pistons as he manages a right thumb sprain.

Detroit leads the Eastern Conference with a 39-13 record, 5.5 games ahead of the second-place Boston Celtics. The Raptors sit fifth at 32-22.
