Team USA’s Mikaela Shiffrin ends Olympic drought with gold in slalom

Mikaela Shiffrin silenced any critics on Wednesday.
The all-time World Cup wins leader captured her first Olympic gold in eight years with a dominant performance in the women’s slalom — her final event at Milano Cortina 2026.
The American star finished a whopping 1.50 seconds ahead of silver medallist Camille Rast of Switzerland in the two-run event.
Shiffrin missed the podium in her first two events at these Olympics and was 0-for-6 for medals in 2022 when she was projected to be one of the big winners at the Beijing Games.
The slalom triumph was Shiffrin’s third gold and fourth overall at the Olympics.
Shiffrin, 30, has 108 career World Cup medals and 15 world championship medals.
Laurence St-Germain was the top Canadian in the Olympic slalom, tying for 10th.
