Jakub Mensik made a winning return from injury in the first-round of the Qatar Open but still had to overcome a scare against qualifier Jan Choinski. He faces Zhizhen Zhang next. He got off to a fine start in Doha after defeating Roberto Carballes Baena in straight sets. The Chinese player did not lose serve as he won 6-4 6-4. He has now won seven matches in a row after his Challenger title win in Brisbane, along with a singles win in the Davis Cup.
Nevertheless, it should be noted that Mensik is also enjoying an eight-match winning streak of his own in terms of completed matches, as he withdrew from the Australian Open before his encounter with Novak Djokovic. One run will end after this match, and Zhang could end up being a test for Mensik, who was far from his best in round one.
