Chris Weidman on MVP MMA Anderson Silva trilogy offer: “We’ve got to talk serious numbers”

Chris Weidman taking on Anderson Silva in a trilogy bout under mixed martial arts rules is something that MVP MMA was reportedly pursuing for their Netflix card this weekend, per the former. Weidman touched upon this ahead of his looming contest with Colby Covington at RAF 9 on May 30th.

With MVP MMA’s inaugural card set for a Netflix broadcast tonight with massive names like Ngannou, Perry, Diaz, Rousey, and Carano, a couple of more massive names were explored for the card with deep history underpinned between them. Discussing his side of the MVP MMA team reaching out to him about doing the Anderson Silva trilogy on their card tonight, Weidman said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

“Yeah, I don’t know what’s going to happen with that. Like with the MVP thing and boxing Anderson Silva. Then they were asking maybe do MMA against him and I’m like I don’t know. We got to talk some serious numbers. My body’s been through a lot. I’ve had 31 surgeries. So, to put myself through a camp like that and put myself in a situation like that, I’d have to be definitely paid a lot.”

“It would be fun. I mean, I love to fight. I love to compete. But at this stage of the game, it takes a lot for me to like recover and work around a lot of things. So, we’ll see. Well, I don’t know. I’m cool with it if it doesn’t happen. I’m cool if it happens. We’ll see what happens with that.”

Chris Weidman: “I feel like I would almost owe Anderson” another fight

It seems like ‘The All-American’ is more into competing with Silva under boxing rules and that would hold greater intrigue for him by virtue of being a newer challenge. When asked a hypothetical about if he got another call for a boxing bout against Anderson Silva would he accept it, Weidman stated [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

“Yeah, I feel like I would almost owe Anderson that. The Anderson fight, having the opportunity to fight him so early in my career, he could have said no to that fight. So he gave me a big opportunity and I’d like to give him a big opportunity to get a chance back at me. Boxing is a good place for that and I still think, I could really show a lot of what I could do in that world, too. So, I definitely would be interested.”
