India issues advisory in Qatar, launches helpline amid Middle East tension

India has issued an advisory for its nationals in Qatar after Israel and the US launched joint strikes on Iran, spiralling a massive Middle East conflict. In a statement, the Indian Embassy in Doha asked its citizens to take due care and follow news and advisories as and when issued by local authorities. It has also launched a 24×7 helpline and email for the citizens for all forms of help.

The US and Iran on Saturday launched coordinated airstrikes on Iran, targeting multiple key military and government sites, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the Iranian President. America named their Operation ‘Epic Fury’ while Israel called theirs as ‘Lion’s Roar’. Soon after, Iran retaliated, raining down several missiles against Israel and against multiple US naval bases across the Gulf states such as the UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait.

Khamenei is believed to have been shifted to a secure place after the strikes. The full-fledged Middle East conflict escalated amid ongoing nuclear negotiation talks between Iran and the US, which is scheduled to resume in Vienna, Austria, next week.

Iran quickly shut its airspace soon after the attacks. Several other Middle Eastern nations, such as Kuwait and the UAE have temporarily shut their airspace. Israel also closed their airspace, while multiple airlines across the globe, including IndiGo, Air India, Turkish Airlines, Emirates, and Qatar Airways, among others, have either suspended or cancelled their flights to Middle East and Israel.
