For the 27th time, PSV will visit Heracles, where it usually does good business. PSV has won nineteen times in Almelo, drew five times and only lost three matches. In addition, PSV often knows how to find the net on visits to the Heracles and scored a total of 61 times, while having to concede 25.
Strong series in Almelo
PSV managed to win the last three duels at the Asito Stadium, conceding only one goal. Thus, PSV opened the premier league season in 2021 with a comfortable 0-2 victory in which Bruma and Noni Madueke were goalscorers. Two years later, PSV won convincingly, beating Heracles 0-6. There were six different goal scorers in total, with Luuk de Jong, Malik Tillman, André Ramalho, Guus Til, Ricardo Pepi and Jerdy Schouten finding the net. The latter scored his first goal in this match in the service of PSV. In the most recent encounter in Almelo, PSV came back from a deficit and managed to win 1-3 thanks to an own goal and goals by Johan Bakayoko and Couhaib Driouech.
Degradation pressure
With only ten rounds left to play, the need to get points is now really high for bottom-placed Heracles. For example, the team from Almelo currently sits in eighteenth place and the Heracles are in a fight for survival. In the past three games, the Almeloans have scored only once and Heracles has lost to N.E.C. (4-1), NAC (0-1) and Go Ahead Eagles (4-0).
Narrow victory
Earlier this season, PSV won by a narrow margin at home against Ernest Faber’s team. In a goal-rich game in which Heracles managed to fight back twice, the team from Almelo was beaten by only one goal difference. In this match, Ricardo Pepi and Ismael Saibari both managed to cash in on a penalty and it was Joey Veerman who scored the third Eindhoven goal of the evening with a hard shot in the second half. Finally, Guus Til scored the winning goal in the 81st minute to set the final score at 4-3.
Hundredth goal
PSV is on a roll this season and has little trouble finding the net. Peter Bosz ‘s team scored 70 goals in the league, PSV found the net 11 times in the cup, 16 goals were scored in a European context and PSV scored twice in the Johan Cruijff Schaal. Old friend
For our head coach, next Saturday’s opponent is no stranger. Peter Bosz himself was at the helm of Heracles for several years and managed to achieve good results. In 2005, Heracles was promoted under the current PSV coach and the team from Almelo reached the cup final in 2012 (which was won by PSV). After his time in Almelo, Peter Bosz came to PSV via Vitesse, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Ajax, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Olympique Lyon, where he is now in his third season. This game is also a reunion of his old love for the current Heracles coach. Ernest Faber was active at PSV as head of youth training and assistant coach and led the A-selection in the 2019-2020 season as interim coach.
