Liverpool suffered another disappointing defeat in the Premier League this season as they lost to bottom-placed Wolves at Molineux on Tuesday night. Arne Slot’s men conceded an injury-time winner to potentially lose grip on the Champions League places.
Mohamed Salah cancelled out Rodrigo Gomes’ opener within minutes for the Reds after the dull opening 65 minutes. But despite having the momentum, Liverpool conceded in the fourth minute of added time when Andre’s strike deflected off Joe Gomez to beat Alisson.
The defeat leaves the holding champions in fifth, three points behind Aston Villa and Manchester United. Victory for Chelsea against Villa on Wednesday will see Liam Rosenior’s men overtake them in the potential final Champions League qualification spot.

Tonight’s surprise defeat at Wolves ends a run of four straight wins for Liverpool. This weekend’s FA Cup return to Molineux gives them a break from league action but a tough double-header against Galatasaray awaits.

Villa were the favourites to get Champions League football not long ago, but their recent results mean they have slipped to fourth. Tonight’s game against Chelsea could be crucial in the top four chase.

United being out of all domestic competitions means March is rather quiet in comparison to their top four rivals. They have the advantage and after Liverpool’s defeat at Wolves, they could add some breathing room between themselves and their rivals with a win.
