Sir Kenny Dalglish is hoping Andy Robertson will sign a new contract with Liverpool amid speculation linking him with a move to Celtic. Robertson was linked with a move away from Anfield over the summer after the Reds signed left-back Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth.
Tottenham were then prepared to pay a package of about £5million for Robertson in the January transfer window, but Liverpool pulled the plug on the deal after talks. The Reds made the call against proceeding with an agreement after their alternative options in the position.
The full-back’s future, though, remains unresolved despite his contract expiring in June, and he has since been linked with an emotional return to Celtic, with former Reds team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain teasing a potential reunion with him at Parkhead this summer.

But Dalglish is hopeful that Robertson will remain a Liverpool player beyond this summer. He said to Celtic Way: “Obviously, his future is dependent on what Liverpool say to him. If they want him, I’m sure he’ll sign. I hope he signs for Liverpool.
“How many left-backs do Celtic need? Why would Celtic even mark somebody’s card that we’re going to go for Robbo? Where’s he going to play? Tierney’s rattled one in again on Wednesday night. He’s prolific now – a goalscoring left-back.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen to Robbo but I do know that he can be proud of what he did at Liverpool. And he can be proud of what he’s done for Scotland.
“So, if he doesn’t sign for Liverpool, somebody’s going to benefit. And if they get him, they’ve a good bonus there.”
While speaking on the Celtic FC podcast, Oxlade-Chamberlain teased: “Having him as a reference point was perfect for me. He’s told me where I need to live, where I need to go.

“He’s told me everything. He’s a proper Glasgow boy… I just said to him, ‘It’s a shame you’re not here with me.’
“Maybe I came a bit early… he might join me soon. He’s a bit younger than me, Robbo. I’d hope to see him here one day. I think he’d be amazing here.”
Addressing his Liverpool future, ahead of talks with Tottenham, Robertson said: “We’ve had chats now which will remain private; we’ll see what happens.
“I’ve got five months left and we need to see the option to stay or if there’s options to go and things like that. I’ll sit down with my family and decide.
“After a stressful summer, I’m just trying to enjoy being a part of it, and being a Liverpool player. I wanted to qualify for the World Cup and thankfully we’ve managed to do that. I need to see what myself and my family wants.”
